 The concept of green roofs is not a new one.

Probably, the best and earliest known example of the concept would be the hanging gardens of Babylon, which were built somewhere around the 9th century, B.C. According to www.greenroofs.com, the inspiration for contemporary green roofs came from Iceland, where sod roofs and walls have been used for hundreds of years.
